Kidman ‘in shock’ over father’s death
Nicole Kidman is “in shock” after the death of her father.
The 47-year-old actress’ dad Dr Antony Kidman tragically lost his life following a fall while visiting Nicole's sister Antonia and her family in Singapore.
And his sudden passing has left the Oscar-winning star distraught.
“Nicole and her family are in shock by the sudden death of her father,” her publicist Leslee Dart said in a statement released to Just Jared. “She appreciates the outpouring of support and kindly requests privacy during this very difficult time. Thank you.”
Sources close to the mother-of-two say the star was “beside herself” when she was told the devastating news while at home in Nashville.
Her husband Keith Urban was quick to cancel his scheduled shows and return to Nashville to support his wife in the wake of the tragedy.
"Nicole is beside herself," a source told Us Weekly. "Keith vowed to be with her as long as he needs to during this horrible time and he is supporting his wife to the fullest. She is beyond devastated and in total shock."
The publication also reports that Nicole and Keith are doing their utmost to make immediate plans to fly out to Australia for the funeral and to be with the actress’ family.
While little is known about the manner in which Dr Kidman lost his life, local police in Singapore did confirm to Reuters on Friday that they are investigating his “unnatural death”.
Dr Kidman was a clinical psychologist at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital and held the position of director of health psychology at the University of Technology Sydney.
The Oscar-winning actress enjoyed a close relationship with her father, and has previously taken him to red carpet events with her. Nicole and husband Keith Urban were joined by Dr Kidman at the Swisse Celebrate Life Ball held in Melbourne in June.
Dr Kidman was given an Order of Australia medal in 2005 for his services to health and medicine. He worked extensively in the fields of breast cancer research, clinical psychology and the psychological impact of living with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janelle Kidma
